About Elena
Elena Prokopienko — Concert Pianist & Dedicated Educator
Elena Prokopienko is a Russian-Canadian concert pianist whose musical journey began at the age of six. She received her early training at the prestigious Kazan Specialized Music School for Gifted Children, followed by a Master’s degree in Solo Piano Performance, Chamber Music, and Pedagogy from the Kazan State Conservatory.
Her principal teacher was Professor Natalia Fomina, a distinguished student of Heinrich Neuhaus, one of the most influential piano pedagogues of the 20th century.
During her conservatory years, Elena worked as a staff accompanist, coaching performance students and providing accompaniment for lessons, recitals, auditions, and competitions—experience that shaped her deep understanding of collaborative musicianship.
After graduating with honours, Elena built a successful career in Russia as a performer, accompanist, and piano teacher at multiple educational levels.
Between 1990 and 2007, she lived in Poland, teaching at the State Music School in Łomża, where she also served as Head of the Piano Department for 17 years. She was frequently invited to give workshops, open classes, and seminars, perform at festivals, accompany recitals, adjudicate competitions, and mentor developing teachers.
Elena’s artistic collaborations include many seasons with the Witold Lutosławski Chamber Philharmonic and performances with the Alla Breve String Quartet. In 1995 she released a CD of horn and piano repertoire with Polish horn player Tomasz Sopur, featuring works by Brahms, Mozart, and Schumann.
Since 2007, Elena has lived in Mississauga, continuing her work as both performer and educator. She has coached and collaborated with students at the Phil and Eli Taylor Performance Academy for Young Artists and The Glenn Gould School of Music, while maintaining a thriving private teaching practice.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Elena has performed extensively across Russia, Poland, and Canada, presenting a diverse repertoire that includes Russian, Polish, French, German, Austrian, Spanish, American, and Canadian composers.
Today, through LenaProk Piano Studio, she brings her deep musical heritage, international experience, and passion for teaching to students of all ages across the GTA.
